Butterflies and Hummingbirds?

After Saturday's bad weather and a cancelation on Sunday, I decided to take part of the afternoon and stake out the butterfly bush in our front yard.  Why? I'm still determined to get a useable hummingbird shot!  While I was stalking hummingbirds, this giant Western Tiger Swallowtail butterfly decided to show up.  So of course, he got his picture taken as well.  I finally got a few hummingbird shots too.  This was by far the best of the bunch.

Not what I was planning on shooting this weekend, but it makes for some good practice and portfolio pieces.

Rain Delay

My plans this weekend were to go to the track and give the camera a workout at the Red Rock Racers event.  However, the rain was so heavy when I got up yesterday that I changed my mind.  The weather cleared up eventually, and I regret not making the trip.  After bad weather on and off all day, I did a little exploring in the afternoon looking for a new spot to take some landscapes.  I didn't get any really good landscapes, but I did get a quick pic of the car that I spent some time Photoshopping. The image is a tiny bit soft because I was shot it hand-held with high ISO. I really have to stop being lazy and actually use the tripod more often.  It really does make for better shots.

Hummingbirds are very crafty

Looking out our living room window this week, I've noticed a lot of hummingbird activity around the neighbor's Butterfly bush.  Being an opportunistic and ambitious wannabe photographer, I grabbed my camera and went to try and get the elusive hummingbird shot.  I've spent more time than I will even admit to trying to get a clear photo of the little bastards.  Three or four of them will swarm the bush at once, making their cute little noises and chasing each other around without a care in the world.  As soon as I grab my camera, *poof*, they disappear. I've tried sneaking up on them.  I've tried sitting in the yard and waiting for them.  I've tried hiding in the bushes.  No matter what I do, as soon as I see them, they flee. They taunt me. Always close when I don't have a camera.  This was the closest I've gotten. I think the next step is to get a hummingbird feeder outside the window to lure them closer to the house.  Oh well.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No! It's a blog!

It's looking serious now.  New website, new gallery, and now…. a blog.  The new website is now officially up and running. This site features expanded galleries, new photos and a shopping cart! This means if you see something you like, you can buy prints!

I've never been good at blogging.  I'm not very entertaining. I complain a lot. I rant occasionally, but can't ever keep anything on a schedule that normal people can keep up with.  I'm hoping this blog will keep me more disciplined about taking and posting new photos.

I'll post projects, shoots and other info here.  My big news for the near future is a trip to the Miatas at Laguna Seca event.  Hopefully there will be lots of good photos!

Anyway, welcome to the new TravisIngramPhotography.com.  Thanks for looking!
