Out with the old, in with the new! Happy New Years!

Happy New Year!
2015 brought with it a lot of opportunities and good surprises. This year I've covered events, shot some cool cars, been published in magazines, taken senior portraits and taken photos for a National client (Pics coming soon!) It's been a great year, but hopefully 2016 will be bigger and better in every way!

Thanks to everyone who made 2015 a success!

Happy Halloween!

It's that time of year again.  The time when ghosts and goblins roam the streets looking for candy and everyone is suddenly a horror fan.  That's right, Halloween! It's become a tradition here for Heidi and I to do a quick Halloween themed photo every year in honor of the holiday.  This year, it was a little last minute, thanks to a hard drive failure, BUT we managed to get one squeezed in.  This year, the theme is a bit of a mixed bag.  I started with the inspiration of doing a dark recreation of "American Gothic" by Grant Wood.  We threw in some Day of the Dead make-up, a little southern flair and a vintage look to complete the composite.  We always have fun with these.  Hope you like it!

FMSC 2015

This year I was privileged to be the official event photographer for Flyin' Miata's 2015 "Summer Camp" event.  I shot hundreds of photos of some amazingly cool Miatas, their loyal customers and, of course, track days! This year the event consisted of four days of Miata madness. Wednesday was a welcoming pizza party for the customers who made it into town early.  Thursday was the first of 2 track days at Grand Junction Motor Speedway, followed by Sonic Night. The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with an open house at FM and awards banquet that evening.  As always, it was a blast to meet with so many enthusiasts and gear heads from all over the country. A special thank you to FM and their customers for giving me this opportunity.  I can't wait for next year!

Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake

Mustangs are a common site, but every now and then, one really stands out to catch my eye.  Jared's 2010 Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake was more than eye catching, it reached out and punched me in the face.  In 2010, this was the fastest production convertible every made.  The 750 hp supercharged V8 could snap to 6o in about 4 seconds, and look good doing it. With all that power and savagery, the cockpit is surprisingly refined.  The seats are comfortable, wrapped in leather with stitched in Shelby logos, and the dash is clean and simple. It's a nice place to be.  The exterior is muscular, with carbon fiber trim, a large air-scoop sculpted into the bonnet, and huge sticky tires to make sure all that power makes it to the ground.  I tried my best to capture the essence of the car in a series of photos at the local concrete factory.  It felt like the perfect spot to show the blue-collar heritage of this refined beast.

MGBGT

Anyone who knows Keith Tanner knows the man is good at making things fast.  His V8 Targa Miata is one of the most insane cars I've ever had the privilege of riding in.  What most people don't know is he has a very interesting collection of odd little cars in his personal garage, ranging from an old Cadillac to a BMW M5. After very little persuasion, I talked him into bringing one of his other toys out for a photoshoot.  What you see isn't always what you get, and Keith's MGBGT is a special kind of Frankenstein's monster with a little bit of everything hidden inside.  The interior and exterior are a gorgeous mix of MGB parts and badges ranging from a variety of MG makes and models, completed with Miata wheels and metal fender flares sourced from a VW Rabbit. Under the body is no different.  The beast is powered by an old Camaro LS1 V8, with Miata suspension and a bit of custom engineering Keith came up with himself.  Overall, its a very understated, classy bit of British motoring with an American twist.

A quick visit to Flyin' Miata

I've had a relationship with the wonderful people at Flyin' Miata for a few years now.  They are experts in making Miatas (and cars based on Miatas) go very very fast.  Last summer I was lucky enough to travel with them to the Miata event at Laguna Seca, and drive one of their supercharged shop cars half way across the U.S. See my shots of Flyin' Miata and the Miatas at MRLS event by clicking HERE.

Recently I was visiting their base of operations in Palisade, CO, and was able to take some fun pics of the shop and some of the cars they have sitting around on location.  They have a lot of fun cars, but one of my favorites is the Catfish kit car created by Bauer Limited Production.  This stunning fiberglass shell uses the Miata "roller-skate" and drivetrain to create a super light-weight, exotic looking beast.  At the heart of this gorgeous roadster is a FM built turbo charged engine with a huge assortment of Flyin' Miata go fast parts.  This more than ensures that the performace is as good as the looks. Click on the link below to see more Catfish pics, photos around the shop and a few shots of the owners, Bill & Teri Cardell.

1953 Ford F100

A few weeks ago I was attending a small local car show with my G35.  The show collected a few odds and ends; some very nice Thunderbirds, a supercharged mustang, a beautiful t-bucket hot rod, a few European cars and even a few imports, including my G35 and a Nismo 350Z. In the midst of all the glitz and chrome of the shiny show cars, there was a matte black beast that stole the show for me. Subtle, but striking, the 1953 Ford F100 built by Dub Dog Customs was a modernized classic. A full air-ride suspension system let the curves of the signature bulging fenders lower perfectly over the drilled disc-brakes and big black wheels. The vintage round headlights glowed from within the darkness of the grill like two eyes under the hood. A hood which hid a modern V8 drive train pulled from a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. These modern, yet classy touches also extended to the interior.  Filling the gauge cluster with modern instruments and easy to reach air ride controls in a comfortable cockpit with red and black trim. After the show, I loitered around until I met the shop owner, Jonny, and harassed him until he let me take a few shots of his most recent creation. I think the results speak for themselves.
